The innovative design of the Mill Seat Landfill made it possible for the Clark Patterson Lee/Monroe County team to investigate the merits of a unique leachate re-circulation program for the landfill. The County received a grant from the New York State Energy Research Development Authority to conduct a demonstration project at the landfill to determine whether such a system is an effective method for managing leachate. The demonstration project also investigated the potential for leachate re-circulation in terms of producing energy from landfill gas and reducing environmental impacts associated with long term landfill management.
